First Pick
The very first hero locked in a draft, chosen before any enemy pick is known.
The first pick is committed before either team has revealed anything about the enemy's draft, so it's usually reserved for a hero who's strong or flexible regardless of matchup — a top-tier flex pick or a hero with no hard counters. Locking a narrow, easily-countered hero first can be punished immediately by the enemy's later picks or bans. In ranked, first pick is often ceded to whichever role is being contested least, keeping flexible options open for later picks.
