A draft built around isolating and killing single enemies rather than 5v5 fighting.
A pick comp (or 'pick/burst comp') is drafted around assassins and burst mages that look for isolated kills on stray enemy heroes rather than committing to full 5v5 teamfights, snowballing off the resulting numbers advantage. It relies on vision to find isolated targets and enough burst to kill before help arrives — heroes like Ling, Karina, or Helcurt are staples. Pick comps are generally weaker in a straight 5v5 than a frontline-heavy comp, which is why they avoid grouped fights entirely.
